UPS™ vs. FedEx™ on Online Tools That Matter

Which one rates better with online billing tools for shippers?  You would be surprised at what even the employees of carriers say.

Ship Watchers has been asked by clients and even shipping carrier’s staff alike “who has better online tools?”  Our answer matters as we are the one that works with all the carriers systems both online and via our network connections.  We have heard enormous amounts of feedback from clients on frustrations along with praise to certain online systems that both the major carriers UPS™ and FedEx™ provide.

First, we want to clear things up with what areas we are looking at.  These are simple access areas (in some cases not so simple to access) that shippers use to get adjustments completed on incorrect charges or services not performed.  With this in mind, you can find these tools online at ups.com (UPS™) and fedex.com (FedEx™).

Our staff and developers were pulled to discuss this topic and the consensus is that FedEx™ by a large distance has better online (adjustment) tools for shippers to use and with the greatest of ease.  UPS™ has a lot of great visibility tools, however even simply emailing there billing department can not be done for normal shippers.

Here is a sample of what we are saying and what client’s views are about.  We to turn our attention to the simple GSR (Guarantee Service Refund) or Service Failures request.  This process of returning a service refund when a shipment arrives late and is past the service commit time is very easy to obtain… with FedEx™.  FedEx has a great online tool in which a simple tracking number and the invoice it was billed on are needed.  Enter them in and the system will automatically tell you if it is approved or denied.  If the refund is denied, then the system will also tell you the reason why.  It is a great system to complete these types of requests (of course you would have to call the toll free number if it is not a black and white situation).

With UPS™ on this area, well lets just say there is no magical easy to use webpage that will do this for you as a normal shipper, call the toll free number and good luck if you have a bunch.

In these times we have to stress that more and more companies are coming up being modern and wanting simple cutting edge solutions that will get the job done now.
