New to Shipping or Freight Auditing? Think you audit everything? We can help you understand…

Shipments leave your place of business everyday.  Each and every shipment goes through hubs, trucks and employee hands before reaching its final destination.  Although you do everything to make sure the shipment is ready and billed correctly, there are many avenues along the way that can add extra charges to your shipment.  A lot of these charges can be imposed on the shipment in error.

Once your shipping invoice arrives in the mail or online it is overwhelmed with your shipments information and also these extra charges that seem perfectly normal.  In most cases the only way to audit the incoming invoices correctly would take a full time employee or even two to track each shipment and match up the charges on the invoice.  Even then a human would not see all incorrect weight adjustment charges that a network would automatically pick up on.

Here are just some areas that your shipment gets incorrect charges, take a look…

- Automated Shipping Carrier Hubs Incorrectly Adjusting Weight Based On Dimensional Weight Instead of Actual
Example:  A package is incorrectly charged extra by an automated dimensional scanner because a piece of tape is hanging off causing the shipment to look larger than actual.

- Seasonal Staff Are Trained Quick and Can Cause Incorrect Adjustments During Your Shipments Transit
Example:  New hires within the shipping hub do spot audits on shipments for weight, account information, proper documentation, correct stickers and more.  Every one of them has the ability to apply an extra charge to your shipment.

- Drivers and Driver Helpers Are the Root Cause of Incorrect Adjustments to Many Shipments in Delivery
Example:  Drivers have a signature pad that can adjust the end cost of your shipment by one incorrect button pushed.  Driver helpers can also be seasonal staff that can incorrectly charge your shipment based on a multitude of delivery issues.

Now that you know a little bit about what goes on with one shipment, you can imagine how many adjustments happen per day to all your shipments.  Even on an invoice some of them seem like correct adjustments until compared to other information sources.
